Fairford Preservation Trust Tree Dedication Ceremony May 2015

Over the last three years FPT has been planning to introduce more trees in Fairford. Phase one involved planting 35 trees in the Walnut Tree field. The idea was to provide a pleasant shaded area around the children’s play equipment and generally to enhance the public’s enjoyment of the area. With pupils from Farmors School we planted 17 white stemmed Silver Birch, 4 Walnuts, 3 Hornbeams and 11 decorative species for their blossom and foliage.

In the first year we had nine losses to vandalism or theft and a further three which were uprooted but were recovered and replanted with some success. Later we planted replacements and these seem to be surviving.

On May the 9th the plaques were in place and a simple ceremony was held for donators of the plaques, two personal in memory of loved ones and the others from the sponsoring bodies, Fairford Town Council, Fairford Town Charity and Fairford and District Lions.

FPT Tree Project will continue to seek out suitable sites in the future and any suitable suggestions would be appreciated.
